I like Faulks as well, I’ve got two of his books waiting for me on the shelf (oh, when to find the time!). And I’d really like to try Kingsley Amis. I’ve had success with his son so am hoping he’ll be just as good.

I do hope you enjoy the Ackroyd. I kept it at my bedside for three or four months, just dipping into it last thing at night. He really is the spirit of London. Try his book about the Thames as well.
